Mediatek announced the launch of a new system on a chip (SoC) Helio P70 with support for advanced AI technologies and upgraded central (CPU) and graphics (GPU) processors for more efficient AI work. Helio P70 provides higher-quality image and camera support, improved gaming performance and improved networking capabilities. P70 combines all the updates in one energy-efficient chipset that meets the highest requirements of users.
The launch of the Helio P70 was a continuation of the global entry into the Helio P60 market earlier this year. The P70 optimized the flagship features of the previous chipset, which will help expand the market for new-generation devices — smart phones with premium features that are affordable.
Developed using FinFET TSMC 12-nanometer technology, the Helio P70 supports multi-core processing unit related to artificial intelligence (APU) with a clock frequency of up to 525 MHz for fast and efficient work of AI technologies. To maximize the performance of resource-intensive games, the chipset combines four Arm Cortex-A73 processors with a clock frequency of 2.1 GHz and four Arm Cortex-A53 processors with a clock frequency of 2.0 GHz in an eight-bit big.LITTLE configuration. To increase the power, the P70 also supports an improved Arm Mali-G72 MP3 clocked at up to 900 MHz, which provides 13% more performance than the Helio P60.
AI Helio P70 technologies provide 10% -30% higher processing speed compared to Helio P60. This means that the Helio P70 is capable of supporting more complex AI-based functions — for example, recognizing a person’s posture in real time and encoding video information using AI.
Mediatek’s AI-based video encoder improves video call quality even with limited network bandwidth. This feature can be used for video calls on Skype and Facebook, as well as for live broadcasts on YouTube.
Helio P70 is developed on the Mediatek NeuroPilot platform, a complex ecosystem of hardware and software for the work of advanced AI technologies. NeuroPilot supports common AI toolkits, including TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe, Caffe2, and specialized third-party solutions.
The advanced features of the GPU Helio P70 allow you to ensure the best performance of games. It is optimized so as to reduce deviations in the frame rate and touch control delay, as well as better display the visual range and get a fast and smooth gameplay.
Helio P70 supports a range of image and video capabilities based on AI, including real-time validation, scene recognition and the use of Augmented Reality (AR) technologies. The chipset provides deep-learning facial recognition with 90% accuracy. Hardware support for a single 32 megapixel camera or a dual 24 + 16 megapixel camera gives device manufacturers greater functional flexibility. Three image processing units (ISPs) can significantly save energy by reducing its consumption by 18% compared to the previous generation of Helio chipsets with support for a dual camera module.
The Helio P70 integrates a 4G LTE modem with a download speed of 300 Mbps. Dual-module support 4G VoLTE provides uninterrupted communication of two SIM-cards for higher quality calls and fast connection. The Helio P70 also supports Mediatek smart antenna technology, which automatically uses the best combination of antennas to maintain signal quality.
Helio P70 already at the stage of mass production. The first devices based on the chipset are expected to hit the market by November 2018
